About Us
Welcome to the Greater London Tamil School. Our school is run by a group of volunteers in and around Watford, Hertfordshire, UK who envision to promote the Tamil language to the younger generation. Inspired by the words of Kaniyan Poongundranar “யாதும் ஊரே யாவரும் கேளிர்” (To us all towns are one, all men our kin). Tamilians are always spreading wings in all corners of the world. Wherever we go we carry our precious language, culture, and tradition close to our hearts. Tamil is one of the ancient and longest surviving classical languages in the world and Tamil literature has existed for over 2000 years. We are proud to be a drop in this ocean and pledge to make every possible effort to pass our language skills to the younger ones.
Our initial goal is to make our children speak in Tamil comfortably without any hesitation or shyness. We aim to introduce phonetic methodologies inline with grammar and vocabulary starting from simple words, gradually building the skills to form sentences and eventually converse, debate and recite. We focus on teaching Tamil through games, conversations, songs and fun-filled activities to generate interest in the language in a lively classroom environment. Whether the child is a beginner, or perhaps understands Tamil but have difficulty in speaking, our curriculum combined with ample practice in our classroom will ensure they are equipped with the confidence and skill to speak Tamil.
We charge a nominal fee to run the class, mainly to cover the expenses like classroom rental, books, stationeries, and other learning resources. All payments are done via online banking.
